Linux now boots on older iPads

This is probably my favourite announcement regarding Linux this year. Well, so far anyway. A couple of individuals have used Alpine based PostmarketOS Linux distro and got it to boot on A7/A8 chip based devices - roughly the 2013-2014 era. A major breakthrough given that Apple has put effort into seeing that nothing runs on them but iOS. Which means they're paperweights since they can't be updated to the latest version of iOS.

The effort is still in its infancy - USB, Bluetooth, and even mounting a filesystem still don't work yet - but this may inspire more people to join in and help. The Linux on iPad project has made some advances by getting a Linux shell (iSH) and VMs (UTM) working, but they're not native Linux.
